V roce 1968 v Ravenside ve vojenské nemocnici v Pensylvánii armáda ztrácí kontrolu nad experimentální smrtelnou biologickou zbraní, která mění DNA a přeměňuje člověka v zombie. Skupina vojáků je poslána do nemocnice k odstranění infikovaných zaměstnanců a stážistů, ale někdo ukradne zkumavky s virem, a schová je do termosky, kterou ztratí. Po otevření začne vir unikat na zem a kontaminuje zbytek skupiny.
