Giles De’Ath (John Hurt) je postarší osaměle žijící spisovatel. Po smrti manželky žije dost izolovaným životem, nepoužívá, ale skoro ani nezná, žádné technické vymoženosti jako PC, fax, ale třeba i televize. Jednoho dne ho náhoda zavede do kina, kde zhlédne film se současným idolem mládeže Ronniem Bostockem (Jason Priestley). A Giles je jím naprosto uchvácen, pořídí si televizi a videopřehrávač, aby mohl donekonečna sledovat jeho filmy, kupuje všechny časopisy, kde se o Ronniem píše. Jeho posedlost dosáhne tak daleko, že se rozhodne Ronnieho vyhledat a odjíždí do USA na Long Island.
