V obrovskom meste vypukne neznáma nákaza. Barbara (Danielle Harris) sa ukryje v opustenom dome. O malú chvíľu do dverí vtrhne obrovský Ben (Tony Todd), ktorý práve prišiel o svoju rodinu. Dom je veľmi rozľahlý, a tak neskôr narazia na ďalšiu skupinku ľudí, ktorá sa tu taktiež rozhodla skryť. Ľudia sa medzitým menia na krvilačné príšery, ktoré sa pred ničím nezastavia. Jedinou možnou záchranou by bolo to, že by preživší dostali do uzavretej oblasti bránenej armádou. Aj skupina z domu vníma túto možnosť ako jediné riešenie tejto komplikovanej situácie. Dostať sa na dané miesto však bude veľmi náročné, pretože v uliciach číhajú na svoje obete stovky nemŕtvych.
