Stanley Thrumm (David McCallum), mladý řidič autobusového zájezdu společnosti Chelsey Tours na trase Londýn-Paříž–Řím, vjíždí s nákladem turistů přes francouzské hranice do Itálie. Večer se jde podívat do kasina a náhodou vyhraje a vyhraje hodně, skoro 12 tisíc liber, což je více než jeho roční plat. Nezkušeného mladíka si v kasinu povšimne krásná Carla Moretti (Sylva Koscina) a usoudí, že by mu ty peníze šly vyfouknout. Proto ho upozorní, že pokud výhru přihlásí, italské a britské daně mu ukousnou valnou většinu peněz. Nabídne mu, že s pomocí jejího exmanžela by šlo výhru uložit na švýcarské konto a daním se tak vyhnout. Po cestě přes Řím, Benátky a Alpy ovšem jak Carla, tak její manžel, tak turistky a turisté vytvoří celou řadu komických zápletek (včetně decentní noční scény krásné Carly a Stanleyho), než se konečně přiblížíme kýžené švýcarské bance. Zvítězí nepočestné úmysly, nebo se vše v dobré obrátí?
